How to start a Food Blog

Updated: Apr 18

Are you a cooker, chef, kitchen enthusiast, or just a normal person who likes to cook?

Every time you cook something people ask for your recipe?

Are you always searching for good recipes and new ways to prepare them?

If you answered Yes to one or more questions, maybe you should start your food blog. there is a hole business around food bloggers and the possibilities are uncountable. I am not saying that you should invest every single minute of your life in it, but you are not going to lose anything by try and who knows about the future, right?

I am a blog reader since 2005 when everyone was just having fun writing blogs and sharing experiences with no expectations. I even start my blog about weddings at that time just because I was so interested in the subject (I had just met my husband).

Now I have this small blog about food photography and it's been quite nice to write it, and quite difficult too, because English evolves lots of grammar checking for me.

My mission here is to talk with you as someone who likes to read blogs and try recipes to photograph food, giving my honest opinion about what I like in a blog and what makes me come back to that blog. So, if you are considering starting a food blog, are my tips for you:

Start it now.

L.Ron Hubbard said “never regret yesterday. Life is in you today and you make your tomorrow.”, or, as my mom says “don’t let for tomorrow things you can do today”.

Enjoy the process

Don’t be so worry about followers, about small things that probably are not exactly perfect. Celebrate small victories and have fun.

Invest in good photos

The blog readers like to see photos. We want to see the recipe, the process, and the ingredients.

You don’t need to hire a photographer or buy an expensive camera, but pay attention to the quality of your photos. Humans are visual, we like to see beautiful images.

Follow all the good Food Bloggers

Learn from the best, watch what are they doing. I am not saying that you should copy what they are doing, but if they are great professionals, something right they're doing.

Start with your strongest recipe

Test the recipes you've used to prepare for your family. The success recipe is probably the best one to teach.

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @pixelofsugar, I use to post great photography tips there.

Be creative!
